Claims we handle

Denied or underpaid insurance claims

A denial letter or a low estimate isn't always the final word. We read the policy, check the insurer's reasoning and build the documentation to push back.

Denied and underpaid claims are a big part of what we do. Many of the claims we take over already have a low estimate or a denial letter, and many of them end very differently once the damage is fully documented and the policy is read line by line.

The results below are the carriers' own estimates, before and after Paramount. One of them started as a $0 estimate on a hail claim.

Paramount is a licensed public adjusting firm in Flowery Branch, Georgia, serving Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina. We represent the policyholder, never the insurance company, and the first review of your claim is free.

Common reasons claims are denied or underpaid

  • Wear and tear. The insurer says the damage is from age or maintenance rather than a covered event.

  • Pre-existing damage. The insurer says the damage was there before the date of loss.

  • Cosmetic only. The insurer agrees there's damage but says it doesn't affect how the roof or siding works.

  • Excluded cause. The loss is attributed to something the policy excludes, such as flood or a gradual leak.

  • Below the deductible. The estimate's scope is so small it falls under your deductible.

  • Missed items. Rooms, elevations, materials or code items left off the estimate entirely.

How we push back

We start with the denial letter or estimate and the policy language the insurer relied on. Then we inspect the property ourselves and document what's actually there, with photos, measurements and a detailed estimate.

With that in hand we ask the carrier to reconsider or reinspect, and we present a supplement that shows, line by line, what was missed. Most of the time, the evidence is what changes the outcome.

Appraisal

Most property policies include an appraisal provision for disagreements over the amount of the loss. Each side picks an appraiser, and an umpire decides what they can't agree on. Appraisal settles how much the damage is worth, not whether it's covered, and we'll tell you whether it makes sense for your claim.

An honest answer up front

Not every denial is wrong. If your policy doesn't cover the loss, we'll tell you so, at no cost. If the dispute is a legal coverage question rather than a question of documentation and value, we'll tell you that too, since public adjusters are not attorneys.

FAQ

Denied or underpaid claims claim questions

Don't see your question? Call us and we'll talk through your claim.

Can a denied insurance claim be reopened?

Often, yes. You can usually ask the insurer to reconsider with new documentation, such as an independent inspection and a detailed estimate. Timing and policy wording matter, so it's best to act quickly.

What is the appraisal clause?

Most property policies let either side demand appraisal when you agree a loss is covered but disagree on the amount. Each side picks an appraiser and an umpire resolves differences. It decides value, not coverage.

Is there a deadline to dispute a denial?

Policies set their own time limits, including limits on when legal action can be taken, so don't wait. Send us the denial letter and we'll tell you where things stand.

Does it cost anything to have you review my denial?

No. The claim review is free. If we take on your claim, our fee is explained in writing before you sign anything.
